AZTECS 2011 TOURNAMENT

Hooray! The new season is nearly here, and to celebrate we once again opened with the AZTECS PRE-SEASON TOURNAMENT!

It was held at Wellington College Sports Club on Sunday 11th September. Results will shortly be published on our Tournaments page.

NEW COMMITTEE FOR THE NEW SEASON

After a successful first season in the hot seat, Club Chairman Chris Giles was re-elected. Although too young to be labelled a club stalwart, that is indeed what he is, having been part of the Club furniture for longer than he dares admit.

The AGM also saw Jeff Skinner re-elected as Club Treasurer, Jonny Skinner as Secretary, Andy Crombie as Committee Member, and Fred Grayson as Vice Chairman.

Many other Club Members have offered their services to carry out other key duties, including social activities, and we look forward to another enjoyable season under the leadership team.

AZTEC JAGUARS WIN PROMOTION TO DIV 1 AND TAKE MEN'S PLATE AT FINALS DAY

Congratulations to the Jags who finished runners up in Div 2 and have won promotion back to the Wessex 1st Division. They also did the club proud by winning the Plate Final 75-55 against Winchester Kings. A special mention goes to Jon Reynolds who picked up the MVP award.

A SPECIAL TALLENT...

Aztec Ladies' Heini Tallent has recently opened her sports massage business, Body Dynamics Sports Massage, in Spencers Wood, Reading. She's offering Aztecs members a 10% discount on all sports massage treatments; pre- and post-competition massages and relaxing Swedish massages are also available.

Heini says that sports massage is a great way to maintain health and fitness and it works well in treating injuries such as muscle strains, ligament sprains, back or neck pain and postural problems. It can be used to great effect to recover from a training session or competition, and regular treatments help prevent sports injuries too. It's suitable for just about anyone, whether you're serious about your sport or just experiencing niggling aches and pains from work or exercise.

AZTECS IN ACTION FOR CHARITY

Several Club Members are in action for good causes. We have a number of men growing mustaches for "Movember", and some of our guys who work at Charters School are fundraising for their new sports hall. Click here for more information about Vangelis' Mo-stache and Mike Cairncross' Movember efforts, and here for Rob Deacon's and Steve Metson's school sports hall campaign.

VIEW PHOTO ALBUMS OF GAMES ONLINE...

We have some photo albums of games. To avoid overloading this website, they have been posted on a separate friendly site. Go to www.bestsites.org.uk and follow the links to Albums.

CLUB T-SHIRT!

Yes, the Club T-shirt is ready - thanks, Claire - and has been designed to complement the latest iteration of our club colours.

Cost is a measly £7, and for that we are grateful to former club member Henry Hunt who has chipped in a decent contribution for the privilege of having his new business name on the shoulder.

Speak to Fred Grayson to reserve yours, and ask for L, XL, XXL.

News of a retired Club Member...

Clubmate Henry Hunt had to retire from the basketball court following an injury. Henry has now started up in the gents' hairdressing business, and has recruited a couple of good european hairdressers ("I don't wield the scissors" Henry pointed out hastily, "I leave that to my professionals!") Henry's philosophy is to ensure that the customer receives an unhurried and professional haircut, rather than a rush in and out of the chair. (Your Style and Image Correspondent can confirm that this is indeed the case, as he "mystery shopped" the service prior to Henry being aware of his booking.)

Henry has bought and completely refurbed the hairdressers at Bay Road Shops in Bullbrook, Bracknell. This is now a very smart unit with completely new equipment, and a bright outlook through the enlarged windows.

To help spread the word about his new venture, Henry is offering discounted haircuts to Club Members - standard cuts reduced from £10.50 to £9, and single grade cuts from £8 to £7. So, when that appointment with the hairdresser is beckoning, why not give Henry's a try?

The Club AGM will be held during June at Wellington College Sports Centre. Papers and accounts will be circulated to Members by email.

E-MAIL SPOOFING ATTACK

We regret a large volume of junk mail has been sent, ostensibly from Aztecs-Basketball.co.uk. This is fraudulent - click here to read more. We never send junk mail, we do not engage in any sort of mass marketing, and we are careful to protect personal data.

Bit of Fun section

Your Entertainments Correspondent has dug out these 3 clips. Turn your speakers on, then click on the picture on the left to see how you will be able to shoot if you attend every training session with the Aztecs this season. On the right, we have the latest candidate for club song. And click here if you want to see some action rumoured to be from one of our training sessions!

And: - Hey, kids: all of these clips are about 1.8mb in size so don't try this at home if you are on a dial-up modem.
